Cotton fibre production
This report explores the fibre stage of the denim life cycle as this stage is the foundation from which the principles of a circular economy as it relates to denim are built upon. The principles; design out waste pollution, keep products and materials in use, regenerate natural systems are all explored in relation to cotton's environmental impact throughout the report (Ellen Macarthur Foundation, 2017).
(Dev)eloping Empathy
Luckily studying UX had already provided the answer. Develop empathy. Often for early career UX designers it can be easy to confuse sympathy with empathy. Sarah Gibbons of Nielsen Norman Group states that “empathy enables us to understand not only our users’ immediate frustrations, but also their hopes, fears, abilities, limitations, reasoning, and goals” and goes on to give an example that the best way to develop this empathy is to recreate a user’s experience ourselves(2019).
Gaining global perspective
In the past two months I’ve attended the Digital Design Days conference in Milan, participated in a UX Research Q & A in San Francisco, learnt about conducting online Design Sprints and the future of Agritech in Brisbane, spent (almost) 24 hours learning about UX projects all over the world and next week will be back to San Francisco for a three day conference on UX Research.
